Founders with idea libido!
Founders and inventors are a category of homo sapiens that have great love for starting new things. Problem is, success involves more than having a starting power, it also involves staying power. You’ve got to start and stick to it to succeed.
And so our streets are littered with very smart people that are unable to succeed even after starting so many new and amazing things. They complain at times but they don’t really care. The thrill is in the starting not really in the staying to see it through to financial success. Next month, your favourite founder is probably going to jump ship, abort mission and start another new thing
They are obsessed, but not with one thing. Their obsession is born again every morning.
This is really funny when I think of it at times. The only solution I can think of on this is that they should innovate internally not externally. Innovating internally will help the inventor come up with great new solutions within the project rather than outside the project.
When I was much younger I worked for such a boss.
His mind works like it has hundreds of electric sparks of ideas blowing up every minute. He could be talking to you about one idea he just conceptualised then he jumps unto the next one “You know what Dave? Let’s forget flying dogs, let’s just do it this way, if we fix live chicken wings on a meat pie…” Every new morning, had a brand new idea of how the product should be. “Dave, I hope you know we are currently building a rectangular product?”
Tomorrow morning, “Dave, forget what we have in the product specs, circle is the new black”
It baffled me a lot as a young mind until I was able to understand life a little deeper.
If you are a cofounder to an inventor, part of your role would be to encourage them say No to a lot of all those early morning new good ideas and stick to the one on the table until it succeeds.
