1. Never put a smart person under a dumb person. It’s the same as having 2 dumb people in the same team, the dumb person will always overrule and override the efforts and results of the smart people under them. If you have this arrangement already, you have to split the team and make the smart person report directly to the superior above the dump person.

2. Never trust a dumb person to do a smart task. If the task is important and urgent do not give it to the dumb guy at work, he always about to surprise you.

3. Don’t shout at staff for coming late, underperforming etc. Use project management and attendance tracking softwares to track their performance, then tie it to their salaries. If people are quarrelling a lot at the office, there is most likely a management software that is missing. Follow me on medium.com/@davepartner

4. Install cctv at the office and actually use it.

5. Be careful giving people second chances. Most things most people do are already formed characters and habits, if they did it the first time, they will probably do it again in a more sinister way. Not all mistakes are worth firing people for, but If you can’t afford a second mistake like that, don’t give that second chance.

6. Invest in proper staff onboarding, don’t just dump new recruits into the old team. Some companies smartly dedicate as much as 2 weeks for new staff training during which they have to pass an exam to prove that they now understand company policies and procedures. Most new staff mistakes and seeming incompetence can be traced back to poor onboarding.

7. Where necessary, make the desks face the walls or hall ways, so everyone can see everyone’s laptop screens. Or arrange the desks to reflect that purpose. 8. Don’t treat people like garbage because they are under you, they will retaliate in one way or the other, sooner or later.

9. If you won’t be able to pay salaries by the end of the month, let everyone know on time, so they can start pacing themselves and their finances properly towards that.

10. Do not try to bend the spoon, there is no spoon. Follow me on medium.com/@davepartner
