There are 2 types of people: the self-driven and the guided
People that are self-driven and people that need to be guided. The self-driven people always know the right thing to do to move to the next level in life. They always somehow have the right solution to problems at every stage. The self-driven are street smart.
If you are in this group, you have to always trust your own instinct above every suggestion you get from anywhere.
The second group of people is those that need to be guided at every stage. Without a mentor, this type of people won’t get anywhere in life. They might even make disastrous mistakes that will cost them everything they have worked for. They just don’t know any better.
If you are in this group, you must always seek the right mentor and follow the rules of apprenticeship. One of these rules is to never trust your own instincts but blindly follow the directives of your mentor or mentors.
Mike Tyson is one famous person in this second group, he was adopted off a young offender’s reform school by a very old man named Cus.
Cus disciplined and put Tyson in the ring. He never met his dad, so the old man became his dad, he guided him until became the world’s youngest heavyweight champion. Tyson’s mentor soon fell ill and died, Tyson’s biggest mistake was not getting a replacement mentor.
From then on, he lost everything. He lost money from his marriage and a very costly divorce. He lost money to His manager, went to jail at the height of his career, became an alcoholic and a substance abuser and started losing fights.
People beat him until he retired. He went broke and declared bankruptcy from initially having a $300m net worth, that’s about 110 billion naira.
Tyson now sells weed professionally.
So, which group are you in? And what are you doing about it?
