True life stories: the best cleaner and painter in the world
We were interviewing for a cleaner, HR already put out all the qualifications a company cleaner must have including a degree.
On the said date, they had interviewed about 8 of them, when the interviewer went on a lunch break. Upon return, they found a strange Filipino lady cleaning the conference room being used for the interview.
Other interviewees and even staff of the company thought that she was a member of the company.
When the interviewer asked her “Are you the new cleaner?”
She replied “No, I came for an interview and noticed the room wasn’t clean and the desks were dusty so I went to the kitchen, took some cleaning towels and broom, and decided to clean it up while waiting for you. I have been cleaning for 17 years and I love very neat environments”.
She didn’t have any degree and her English is broken.
Guess who later got the cleaning job? The lady of course. HR wiped off all their requirements for a cleaner and took her ASAP
Some time ago, I went to re-paint my car. I arrived at the mechanic village 2 painters ran up to me. I took one by the side and negotiated the price, after which I asked him
“are you really sure you can do a good job at this?”
He replied, “My brother, don’t worry, I will”.
Later, I negotiated with the second person and asked him the same question, he replied “My brother, I don’t want to sound boastful, but I am the best painter the whole of this Lagos state. After painting your car, you will get 10 more cars for me to paint. While you were talking with the other painter, I went round your car to observe it. I see there are some scratches on the bonnet and by the sides, I will have to scrape and seal it off first before painting. Just give me the job, 3 days, you’ll give a good testimony”.
Guess who I later gave the contract? The second painter of course and just like he said, he ended up doing a really good job.
What’s the moral lesson?
